<image:title>THE UNSEEN - THE UNSEEN</image:title>
<image:caption>Imprisoned by a totalitarian regime and mercilessly tortured for unknown crimes, Wallace and Valdez live without hope of escape or release. When an enigmatic new prisoner arrives and begins communicating in code, both men develop new relationships to each other, thier captors, and themselves. Originally slated to be staged in 2020- the original production was stopped in it’s tracks by COVID-19. The Unseen was the last production running in Newcastle at the time of the New South Wales lock down. After several attempts at re-staging the show, The Unseen was eventually staged in its entirety from March 11-14 2021. The Unseen is written by Craig Wright (making this Knock And Run’s second production of one of Wright’s plays- the first being Grace in 2017). All versions of Knock And Run Theatre’s production of The Unseen were directed by Patrick Campbell. The cast was comprised on Phillip Ross (Valdez), Matthew Heys (Wallace) and Paul Sansom (Smash). Allison Van Gaal was production manager and James Chapman served as producer. Van Gaal and Chapman also provided set, costume, make up between them. Riley Walpole created the lighting and sound design. Austin Cooper and Bill Parry rounded out the team by operating the lighting and sound.</image:caption>

<image:title>CIRCUMFERENCE OF A SQUIRREL - CIRCUMFERENCE OF A SQUIRREL A RIFF WITH AN INNER-TUBE BY JOHN WALCH</image:title>
<image:caption>MARCH 20 - 23, THE DUNGEON, ADAMSTOWN An inner-tube, a bagel, a donut, a lifesaver, a holiday wreath, a tire-swing, a cycle of abuse, a halo of hatred: circles, both real and figurative, whirl out of control in this darkly comic one-man show. And at the center of them all sits an enigmatic squirrel. Orbiting that squirrel is Chester, a self-described rodentophobe who spins the outlandish, funny, and bruising tale of growing up with a father who developed a rabid hatred for squirrels -- a hatred that eventually infected every aspect of his and his son's life. Pursued by memories of his intolerant father and the legacy of bigotry, Chester is pulled into the black hole at the center of his own life where he encounters the mistakes, the fears, the guilt, and the humanity that make him whole again. For the first time, Knock And Run hits the Newcastle Fringe with the return season of one of their most acclaimed productions. Starring award winning performer James Chapman and directed by Allison Van Gaal, Circumference Of A Squirrel is a deeply moving exploration of grief, regret, sorrow, loss and growth. K&R’s original 2019 production of Circumference Of A Squirrel was met with critical acclaim and was nominated for two CONDA awards: Best Director (Drama) for Allison Van Gaal and Best Male Performance in a Lead Role (Drama) for James Chapman.</image:caption>

<image:title>THE FIX - THE FIX</image:title>
<image:caption>How do you justify the unjustifiable? To convince yourself that a decision, so extreme, so final, makes perfect sense? Do the solutions - the fixes - we devise in our darkest moments have to make sense to anyone but you? The Fix poses these very question, as two complete strangers find themselves trapped together on the rooftop of a high-rise. The third ever Knock And Run show, The Fix was also K&R’s first completely original play. Playwright and director Dez Robertson worked with Knock And Run to bring the world premier of this play to life. The Fix was staged at The Royal Exchange in 2017. It was directed by Dez Robertson. Angela McKeown took on the role of production manager. James Chapman produced. The cast of the two hander was Tony Gluck and Tim Blundell playing The Man and The Guard respectively. Robertson, McKeown and Blundell would team up again to restage the play in 2020.</image:caption>

<image:title>AJAX IN IRAQ - AJAX IN IRAQ</image:title>
<image:caption>Past and present collide in Ellen McLaughlin's mash-up of Sophocles' classic tragedy Ajax with the modern-day war in Iraq. The play follows the parallel narratives of Ajax, an ancient Greek military hero, and A.J., a modern female American soldier, both undone by the betrayal of a commanding officer. Athena, goddess of war, coolly presides over the whole. Inspired by material collected from interviews with Iraq war veterans and their families, Ajax in Iraq explores the timeless struggle soldiers face in trying to make sense of war. Knock And Run Theatre’s production of Ajax In Iraq was staged in 2018 at Tantrum Studio in Newcastle. It was directed by James Chapman (his first turn at directing for the company). Chapman also provided the sound design while Lyndon Buckley designed the lighting. The cast was comprised of Amy Vee (as Athena), Lachlan Fairhall (as Ajax), Olivia Jubb (as A.J), Belinda Hodgson (as Mangus) and the ensemble included Angela McKeown, Matthew Heys, Marissa Saroca, Roger Ly, Alexandra Rose, Keltan O’Shae, Milly Lambert and Troy Bull. The show was nominated for two CONDA awards: Best Supporting Actor (Male)- Matthew Heys and Best Lighting Design- Lyndon Buckley.</image:caption>

<image:title>YEAR OF THE ROOSTER - YEAR OF THE ROOSTER</image:title>
<image:caption>Gil is a loser. He works at McDonald's, lives with his ailing mother, and hasn't had a girlfriend since...ever. But that's all about to change. He's been secretly training (and drugging) a rooster to fight. And Odysseus Rex aka "Odie" is the baddest barnyard bird there is. Gil has so much faith in Odie's abilities that he bets everything on him -- but victory and revenge may not yield the delicious spoils he anticipates. A fiercely comic play about cockfighting, connections, and clawing your way to the top. Knock And Run’s production of Olivia Dufault’s Year Of The Rooster took place in 2018. It quickly became K&R’s highest praised and best selling show since our first production- Suicide, Incorporated. The show was directed by Allison Van Gaal. It starred Will Parker as Gil Pepper and James Chapman as Odysseus Rex. Stephanie Priest, Carl Gregory and Jan Hunt appeared in supporting roles as Phillipa, Dickie and Mrs Pepper. Year Of The Rooster was nominated for 6 CONDA awards in 2018: Best Dramatic Production, Best Director (Drama)- Allison Van Gaal, Best Lead Actor (Male)- James Chapman, Best Supporting Actor (Female)- Stephanie Priest and Best Ensemble Acting. Will Parker won a CONDA for Best Actor Under 18 for his portrayal of Gil Pepper.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Steve and Sara have relocated to Sunrise, Florida to pursue an unbelievably wonderful business deal, but as the deal slowly unravels Sara finds herself increasingly drawn to their next-door neighbour, Sam, a badly-scarred victim of a recent car accident who wants nothing to do with her or her Bible-quoting husband. In the end, with a little help from an old German exterminator who's still angry about the effects of World War II, all three characters are confronted by a world that's both better and worse than any religion can justify. After the success of Suicide, Incorporated in 2016, K&R selected Craig Wright’s “Grace” to be their follow up. Staged at The Civic Playhouse in early 2017, Grace received rave reviews from audience and critics. Jay Wood directed the play and was assisted by Konstanze Koedam. The cast was Mathew Lee as Steve, Samantha Lambert as Sara, James Chapman as Sam and Paul Sansom as Karl. Jay Wood provided sound design and Lyndon Buckley return to do lighting design. Grace was nominated for 5 awards at the 2017 CONDA Awards: Best Dramatic Production, Best Director (Drama)- Jay Wood, Best Lead Actor (Male)- Mathew Lee, Best Lead Actor (Female)- Samantha Lambert, Best Sound Design- Jay Wood.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Jason's having a tough week at work. Profits are down, lawsuits are up, and worst of all, his boss has begun to suspect the truth: that Jason's trying to ruin the company by keeping its customers alive. See, Jason's been hired at Legacy Letters to help clients craft the perfect suicide note. But he seems to have his own agenda... A subversive, darkly comic play about opportunism and that elusive thing called redemption. Suicide, Incorporated by Andrew Hinderaker was Knock And Run Theatre’s first ever show. Staged in 2016 at The Black Box Theatre, “Suicide, Inc” was a critical success and kicked off our company. The original production was directed by Patrick Campbell and assisted by Zoe Anderson. The cast included James Chapman as Jason, Phillip Ross as Scott, Lindsay McDonald as Tommy, Carl Gregory as Norm and Cooper McDonald as Perry. The show was nominated for 3 CONDA awards: Best Director (Drama) for Patrick Campbell, Best Lighting Design for Lyndon Buckley and it won the CONDA for Best Dramatic Production. In 2019, Knock And Run staged a return season, this time at Newcastle Theatre Company. The original directing team returned and Chapman, Ross, Gregory and Cooper McDonald all reprised their roles. Joining them was Ned Keogh who replaced Lindsay McDonald in the role of Tommy.</image:caption>

<image:title>TREVOR - TREVOR</image:title>
<image:caption>“Third time’s the charm!” For the third time, Knock And Run is proud to announce their production of Trevor by Nick Jones. One of the most awaited plays will hit Newcastle stages on Jan 8-15 2022. Inspired by true events, Trevor is a subversive comedy about fame, success, and the lies we tell ourselves in order to keep people from taking away an erratic, 200-pound chimpanzee. At the centre of this hilarious and heart-wrenching play are two individuals fighting against a world unable to understand their love: Trevor, a chimpanzee who once performed in commercials with the likes of Morgan Fairchild, and his owner Sandra, who swears he would never hurt a fly...at least not on purpose. A moving exploration of family, flawed communication, and humanity. The third and final instalment of Knock And Run’s Animal Cracker Trilogy (Year Of The Rooster, Circumference Of A Squirrel, Trevor), Trevor is directed by Allison Van Gaal and assisted by Bailey Ackling Beecham. The stellar cast consists of James Chapman (Things I Know To Be True), Karen Lantry ( Much Ado About Nothing), Maddie Baillie (Mamma Mia), Zac Smith (Mamma Mia), Patrick Campbell (The Shawshank Redemption), Ben Louttit (Two Point Oh) and Nerida Walker (Chess). <image:caption>Elliot Leeds is dead -- or is he? A pioneering software mogul, Leeds makes headlines one last time when his private jet plunges into the Pacific. Months later, his grief-paralyzed widow Melanie discovers Elliot's greatest creation: a virtual-reality simulation of himself that he masterminded before his demise. Programmed with advanced artificial intelligence, thousands of hours of his recorded thoughts and speech, and a digital re-creation of his face and body, "Elliot 2.0" is a talking, thinking, virtual soul. And though merely an image on the video screens of their wired, high-tech mansion, it -- he -- can answer questions, hold conversations, share memories, and perhaps even grow in intelligence and capacity. The question is...is he alive? Knock And Run’s production of Jeffrey Jackson’s Two Point Oh was staged at The Civic Playhouse between April 21 - 24. It was directed by James Chapman and assistant directed by Stephanie Rochet. The cast was made up of Ben Louttit (Elliott Leeds), Bec Kynaston (Melanie Leeds), Tim Turner (Ben Robbins), Claire Williams (Catherine Powell) and Patrick Campbell (Jerry Gold). Jacob Harwood provided lighting and AV design and Alex Mangano was the stage manager.</image:caption>

PLAY DATE 2021 Line Up: THE PLAY ABOUT TIME & SPACE Written and Directed by Jo Ford ”Written with the intention of creating the worst possible play about the theme time and space possible. Success!” 33 YEARS Written by William Cesista. Directed by Elyh Tarran ”Noah Owens is dead and is now being judged on his life and final actions in the court of the afterlife. Stuck between the laid-back Saint Francis (yes that one) and a devilish prosecutor he must relive the most heart-breaking moments of his life as he tries to provide justification for his most sinful act and come to terms with his wife’s death.” WHY I LOVE THE MOON Written by Nyah Le and Ashleigh Henderson. Story by Yasmin Oliveria-Couper ”'Why I Love The Moon' follows the story of Hinata: a 17-year-old girl who is consumed by the anxieties of growing up. The play explores Hinatas' complicated relationship with time and its effects (represented by the moon). As the story progresses, we see Hinata address her fears, as a result of her sister Stella and their situation. The entirety of the play is set at night time, excluding a few final moments, where the sun rises, posing as the catalyst for a newfound acceptance of letting go of childhood and moving on.” LIFE AFTER FOOTBALL Written by Ethan Andrews ”Sometime barely in the future an ageing rugby league player is forced to confront the climate crisis and acknowledge the limitations of his own talent. As the end of his playing career approaches and his father grows sicker by the day, he does something he really doesn't want to do. “ HOLIDAY SCOTT AND HIS ADVENTURES THROUGH TIME & SPACE Written by Ethan Dale ”Due to the death of Jess' father, her friends have agreed to play a game of "Holiday Scott and his Adventures through Time and Space", a game which they haven't played since they were kids. Not everyone is fully on board with this.” OVERDUE Written and by Luka McCallum ”It’s a Thursday night and we open to a desolate empty car park. The only light is provided by the flickering beams of a broken street lamp. Robert is a hopeless romantic stuck in nostalgia Celeste is a realist stuck in her relationship” THE OPPORTUNIST Written and Directed by Dez Robertson ”A light-hearted look at missed opportunities revisited.” THE AUBERGINE Written by Olivia Jubb and Tom Coyne ”Two beings come to form in an unknown, idealistic place. Through learning they discover free will. Their main challenge? An eggplant.” DOES THE MEANS JUSTIFY THE ENDS? Written by Mark Konik ”Julie is having an existential crisis - she think it's the end - what she doesn't realize is that she's actually on Australia's favorite new game show.” GREY OLD MAN Written by Maddie Baillie and Anthony Morris. Directed by Maddie Baillie ”An old man, with the inability to speak, falls from the sky and sees a dangerous amount of rain on his descent. He lands in a drought stricken post apocalyptic terrain where he discovers a young boy, desperately digging for water. The old man attempts to warn the child about the potential danger, however, the boy finds the prospect of rain exciting. Upon returning to his village with the old man, he delivers the message of rain on deaf ears. The villagers abuse the old man, who begins to cry, creating a deluge of water, which inevitably destroys the village. The old man perishes in a flood created by his own tears.” Play Date 2021 Nov 6 @ Newcastle Theatre Company Applications for directors are now open: https://form.jotform.com/200440897835865 Auditions are opening soon!</image:caption>

<image:caption>“Who is the Vision Holder?” We are proud to present the Australian premier of Ideation: a comedic thriller by Aaron Loeb. Patrick Campbell (Suicide Incorporated, The Unseen) directs and featuring Maddie Baillie (Trevor), Ben Loutitt (Heathers), James Chapman (Airness), Tim Turner (Two Point Oh) and Austin Cooper (The Shawshank Redemption). Ninety minutes from now, a group of stressed-out corporate consultants is slated to present their work on a mysterious project. It's time to brainstorm within the morally ambiguous parameters they've been given so they can make it to their kids' soccer games and continue their ill-advised affairs. But as they work, the question of what they aren't being told looms ever larger, becoming harder to ignore. If something truly monstrous is going on, it wouldn't be happening over Starbucks scones . . . would it? A ferocious and hilarious thriller. Ideation aims to be one of the most immersive theatrical experiences you will ever see, making use of a unique location in a board room at the University of Newcastle’s Q Building. Audience members will feel like they are sitting at the board room table with the characters (because some of them will be!).</image:caption>

<image:title>I AND YOU - I AND YOU</image:title>
<image:caption>One afternoon, Anthony appears unannounced at classmate Caroline’s door, clutching a battered copy of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass and an urgent English assignment they must complete together. Caroline hasn’t been to school in months, confined at home by illness, but her sharp wit and sardonic edge are more than a match for Anthony’s earnest charm and easy popularity. What begins as a simple poetry project soon becomes something far more unexpected. As the two teenagers drop their defenses, trade stories, and reveal long-held truths, the afternoon opens into a deeper mystery… and a connection neither of them saw coming. I and You is a funny, heartfelt ode to youth, love, and the strange, breathtaking beauty of being human. “By the close, Gunderson has guided us toward a sublime transfiguration that encompasses Leaves of Grass, John Coltrane, Jerry Lee Lewis, space and time, bodies and spirits, death and rebirth.” The New Yorker. “…a validation of the human experience, and of the triumph of life over death. Gunderson’s gift is the best thing a play can offer: we might be better people after seeing it.” DC Theatre Scene. “…sharp and funny. Gunderson taps into a buoyant spirit…the touching ‘barbaric yawp’ of these two deeply engaging kids.” Washington Post.
